export materials from an open scene

Post by FakeShamus » Sun Jun 17, 2012 11:23 am

I've been thinking it would be a great help to be able to export individual materials while you're testing a scene in Indigo. I often start materials in Blendigo and then tweak the settings in Indigo during test renders, then I have to go back and match the material settings in Blendigo for the next export. the material builder in Indigo is great, but the preview scene doesn't usually reflect the same lighting conditions, scale and set up of your final render, so materials made that way often end up needing adjustment during the testing phase.

I realize you can save out your entire adjusted scene from Indigo, but often I'm not finished building things in Blender, I just want to lock in a material. saving a copy of your whole scene seems like overkill for that purpose. if you could export an .igm straight from a test render it would make it very easy to just go back and link to it in Blendigo.

thanks!

There is a file menu only for this purpose in the Property Editor window !

Both igm and pigm writing are supported.

well, there is no file menu of any kind in my property editor window.
if you mean the main file menu, the options are "Save Scene" and "Save Scene As..."
if you try to save an .igm or .pigm from that menu it doesn't let you, it requires an .igs extension.

if I close my scene and start fresh with "New Material", then it gives me the options "Save Material" and "Save Material As..." but not while a scene is open.

I'm on a Mac, by the way - maybe we're missing something?

I think so. Here's the menu I've been talking about in the Property Editor.

Uhm, it should be there

What happens when you dock the property editor, then restart Indigo?

(I have a feeling that it may have something to do with the docking/undocking)

makes no difference, I've tried all combos of docking, popping out, rearranging, etc.
for reference, this is on Indigo 3.2.4, running OSX 10.6.8 on my 2008 Mac Pro.

I've never seen a "save material" option in the property editor window in any previous versions of Indigo, either, hence the request... I thought it was not implemented.

Having the same problem. Very frustrating. I'm on a Mac too.
