Hi,

Well...Housing interior that is.

This is mostly furnitured with low poly models took from 3D warehouse on purpose. Since I wanted to put...a lot of things and keep the scene smooth.

However, I feel it's not so great, so any advice is welcome

awesome stuff, I know they are just wips but perhaps leave the last few to bake a little bit longer. Can't wait for more!

Thanks, but unfortunately I got a tone of images to compute first. However I'll resume those renders soon I hope.

By the way the leather was rendering far better when the scene was lighter...since I added a lot of furniture, it became a bunch of fireflies in renders.

it's time to make better couches.
I found great free models provided here :

But the normals are totally Jammed, so I'm wasting time on flipping them etc....such a pain.

I took the leather from the materials database :

However at least I got Couches that don't look like chewed legos !

Thanks, I use Sketchup (iirc like you )
But I'm also a big Rhino user.
Those couches are rhino files customly exported as 3ds so i can clean normals problems in skp and use skindigo. But the website already proposes good quality 3ds versions of the models.

But the normals are totally Jammed, so I'm wasting time on flipping them etc....such a pain.

In sketchup if you flip an incorrect face so the normal is correct, then right click that face and select 'orient faces' 8 times out of 10 all incorrect normals in the model will flip to the correct orientation....Doesn't always work, but when it does it saves a massive amount of time selecting individual faces and flipping them all one by one.

Try it! Might speed you up a little. Great renders too by the way

Effectively this is a wonderful option, but it won't work on opened tubes (tried it on the model).
Another problem is that every little piece of the couch is in a different group...so you have to merge them together before you can flip all faces in one shot.

So I catch all the wrong groups, explode them in one click and invert all faces.

However, the other problem is that the model is pretty heavy, so it's not very smooth to operate on

Here I begun modeling the room :

I added displacement to the leather, but I overdid it I think...

What do you people think ?

Jokes apart, I REEEALLY like the cold atmosphere: will be a gem to add a warm element, such as a lightbulb or something..

Yeah I want to give it some special atmosphere like in films, and I especially love cold blue ones

Great idea for the warm element ! I think I'll add a little table with a yellow little light and an open book or something. What about it ?

I'm experiencing some strange problem, when I get to a really high resolution, my aperture diffraction dissapears....
Also, I used crazy values to have a decent light : Power is at 10 000 and efficacy at 100...

I really liked the interiors as well as the architectural renders. Quite a design + visualization is it. Cheers.
I would appreciate if you were able to share the rendering time of respective renders, and your computer's hardware configuration. Would be of great help for a starter like me !

Thanks, well the images took a very long time to bake...maybe because my scene was overloaded with various stuff...Or maybe cause of some buggy geometries I don't really know.

I have a very good processor (I7 2600k) and 8GB of RAM. I don't use GPU in those renders...because everytime I tried, first the light was losing quality (maybe because of pathtracing...) and later it begun to crash.

So sometimes it took 48 hours for one image with bidir MLT render mode. And still, it was horribly noisy.

However those last images (the chair + the light in the empty room) I get some good renders in 15 minutes.
