Hey guys, a quick question for ATI owners:
Drivers v 11.7 boosted the Luxmar of the Luxrenderer guys quite massively:
http://www.luxrender.net/forum/viewtopi ... 324#p67324
this is just insane from my something beyond 3500 points it went up to 7359 which is two times more than before. i have radeon 5870 stock clocks.
Afaik this is due to v2.5 of AMDs APP SDK inside, here are some links:
http://www.guru3d.com/news/download-amd ... l-drivers/

The 11.8 Preview driver even uses a newer 2.5 build:
http://www.guru3d.com/news/amd-catalyst ... -download/

My old OpenCL 1.0 card doesn't run Indigos GPU mode, so I'm asking kindly for some benchmarks :)

I had a look at those drivers, and there didn't seem to be one for the FirePro V5800 we have in the office :(

On the other hand, the previous drivers (6th June) double the rendering speed in the Erotica test scene on a Q6600 - from 350ksps to over 700k. So the OpenCL acceleration is already quite useful on simpler scenes, and I guess we'll (at Glare) just have to wait for the official release.

Borgleader, that's very strange as I'm pretty sure the GTX 550 is based off the latest NVIDIA architecture (they're known to sometimes use older generation tech in the low/mid range products)... do other CUDA / OpenCL apps work for you? If it doesn't say anything in the GUI or on startup (in the log) then it's failing to find nvcuda.dll in your path.

dag, there are some issues with the Caterpillar example scene that cause issues now and then, I don't suggest you use it as a reference (having learnt this myself!). SSS with wavelength dependent scattering, especially with MLT, can get quite thoroughly "stuck" in tracing long paths with thousands of scatters, meaning you'd need to leave it running for a very long time indeed to get a good result.

Therefor I asked for some more benchmarks from the community ;)

So this is 350k without GPU and 700k with GPU right?! So the doubling is just CPU vs CPU+GPU... well... but how big was the jump between the 6th June and the previous drivers for ya???

Hmm, in general we've seen great performance improvements (and important bugfixes) with each driver release from both AMD and NVIDIA, which is why we place so much emphasis on users keeping their drivers up to date.

GPU computing is pretty new, and everyone's still working things out :) Maybe one day AMD will make their drivers not hard reset when something goes wrong... ;)

Unfortunately we haven't done this yet, since we're moving to a fully automated building system. Windows and Mac builds are done regularly now, and Linux will become part of this pipeline soon (meaning there should be no more delayed builds after this is done).

Sorry for the delay!

Is aperture diffraction enabled in indigo 3.0.14 ? Can't get it to work...

EDIT: Ok got it!

Ok, I have to report a minor bug for the last Linux build (3.0.10). I post it here so the next update will hopefully be fixed :D
There are some problems coming up after the pc has been blocked (when you don't use it for a variable amount of time): numpad and keyboard in general seem not to work properly at all. Maybe it's a Linux issue, or maybe an Indigo one: you guys check if you can..

A tip for the next release: could it be possible to make the up/down arrows next to the value input-boxes to work kind of like sliders, as it is in Max for example? and I'd also love to have a better precision over the numbers: at the moment one click adjusts the value by 0.1 unit: I'd love to have a 0.001 precision :)

Don't know if anyone else is sensitive to this suggestion :)

That's very strange :? Do other CUDA applications work?

Small bug: I noticed that in the matID render and alpha render, the alpha channel of transparent-backgrounded textures is ignored, while it renders correctly if an alpha map is applied.

The experimental builds for Blender's new rendering engine (Cycles) with cuda enabled work on it yes.

Hello, I´am not happy to say this, but my hd 5850 still doesn´t work with Indigo and it looks not like a driver-issue. Since 11.7 opencl works, but Indigo does not. Do I have to buy a Nvidia card?

Try the latest 11.8 Drivers from here:
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=2769

The drivers are actually not that important, but AMDs APP software is!
It isn't included in all driver distributions around! So be sure to update the APP as well...

Hell no... I hope not ^^
There are issues but since still being beta Indigo isn't flawless expectedly regarding the new GPU render Mode...

any idea of your delay?

a small linux update would be realy realy appreciate, with or without cuda. Unfortunaly, I migrate to 3.0 because I was thinking it was stable and now it's a bit difficult to return back to 2.4, thx in advance
