Borgleader's Learning Progress Thread
So as to not clutter the simple rendering's thread with my stuff as I'll probably start quite a few smaller projects (game props most likely), I'll start this thread.
First up, Plaststeel Cylinder (from the KotoR games yes).
Reference (taken from http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Plasteel):
High poly mesh (Indigo render):
Normal map:
Blender render of low-poly mesh with normal map applied (didn't use indigo here because I baked a normal map):

Re: Borgleader's Learning Progress Thread
Impressive - can we see a wire frame of the low poly version?
I've just been starting to play Kotor on my PC so this is interesting - I'm getting some back story for the new SW-TOR game that is coming soon

Here's a wireframe comparison of the low and high poly meshes (note: the high poly mesh is in 2 parts, the rings aren't in the same object as the "barrel" itself):

Looks nice, I would try it in a game engine tough (Marmoset Toolbag, UDK, Source....) since it can be a huge difference on how blender render normal maps and a game engine.
Are you going to texture it?

Yeah, I have the UDK installed so I'll be trying it in there (may also try Unity). As for texturing, I'll definitely try but I always have a hard time with this part of things -.-;Stromberg wrote:Looks nice, I would try it in a game engine tough (Marmoset Toolbag, UDK, Source....) since it can be a huge difference on how blender render normal maps and a game engine.

Re: Borgleader's Learning Progress Thread
Hope to see a udk/unity screenshot of it the, one thing if it looks horrible try and flip the green channel in photoshop and import the normal map again in udk/unity
mm, texturing can be hard but as everything else practice makes perfect, there is also plenty of texturing tutorials

Tehee Not my design though, It's a replica of the Endar Spire's bridge from KotoR.

So is that sphere outside the window to scale for a real planet?

No, I scaled it so it would match the reference, I didn't see the point in making it to scale especially since I don't have any accurate date on how big to make it.ieatfish wrote:So is that sphere outside the window to scale for a real planet?

Re: Borgleader's Learning Progress Thread
Digging this thread! Nice work borgleader. Can't wait to see that scene textured, there is an overwhelming lack of "in-space-craft-sci-fi-art" on this here site! Keep it up.
