Indigo Renderer and Indigo RT 3.0.14
Indigo Renderer and Indigo RT 3.0.14
CUDA 4
In this release we have made the move from CUDA 3.2 to CUDA 4, so you will probably have to update your graphics card drivers.
We found substantial performance improvements form rebuilding with CUDA 4 and using updated drivers.
Mac users with Nvidia cards on 10.6 can find the required driver here (it also requires to update to the latest OSX version, 10.6.8 ).
Updated tone mapping pipeline
We updated the tone mapping pipeline to make it use less ram and to make it faster. Some RAM consumption comparisons:
A scene by dcm (3508x2480, SS4):
3.0.14 - 8,7 gigs of ram
3.0.12 - 12,1 gigs of ram
2.4.13 - 10 gigs of ram
A scene by Zom-B (3543x1993, SS3):
3.0.14: 2.2GB
3.0.12: 3.8 GB
Faster environment map processing and sampling
The processing and sampling of environment maps was improved and should result in faster scene building and slightly faster rendering of environment maps.
A quick test by Zom-B:
MLT+BiDir: +2,9%
PT + BiDir: +4,3%
CPU PT: +3,6%
This is a Beta release.
If you spot any bugs or problems, please make a post about them in this thread.
Thanks!

Changelog:
3.0.14
* Fixed crash when toggling aperture diffraction checkbox during render.
* 'Reset Layout' command now resets all toolbars and widgets.
* <gpu> tag now read from renderer_settings element.
* Meshes with zero tris/quads now don't result in an error message, just a warning to the log.
* Made new imaging defaults mn_cubic with blur=1, ring=0, radius=1.6
* Updated environment map sampling, should build faster and render faster.
* Fixed OpenCL for ATI cards
3.0.13
* Refactored imaging pipeline to be faster and consume less memory when not using aperture diffraction (no auxilliary buffers)
* Added multiple file selection for adding scenes to the render queue.
* Added "New Material" action to the "File" menu. It creates a new material and opens the preview scene with the material applied
* Added "Save As..." to "File" menu.
* Changed "Save" action to save the scene/material to its already existing location
* Scenes now have a modified state

Re: Indigo Renderer and Indigo RT 3.0.14
still having problems getting GPU mode to work with my ATI card on Mac. (ATI 5870 1GB, 2011 6-core Mac Pro). the scene loading is fine and seems normal, but I get 0 samples/sec and the image never updates.
and then once I stop the render Indigo goes unresponsive and I have to force-quit.
the render log looks like this right before it freezes:
console messages don't give much helpful info.
non-GPU works just fine.
thanks!

Re: Indigo Renderer and Indigo RT 3.0.14
it looks like memory problem to me...thread is terminated when you have no enough memory ? im wrong ?
please add to 1st post that i was rendering interior with SS4 in 3508x2480

Re: Indigo Renderer and Indigo RT 3.0.14
well, that's another thing, Indigo seems to only recognize 512 mb of my 1gb GPU ram.
but this can't be a memory thing, I've tried paring the scene down to a single cube and the same thing happens every time.

Re: Indigo Renderer and Indigo RT 3.0.14
AFAIK this is the old story about OpenCL/CUDA (??!) only being allowed to use the half of the memory of the GPU. A Driver based restriction and not the fault of Indigo...FakeShamus wrote:well, that's another thing, Indigo seems to only recognize 512 mb of my 1gb GPU ram.
If somebody has some more facts about that please share :)
Re: Indigo Renderer and Indigo RT 3.0.14
Well, someone with a HD 5770 reported this back when 3.0 was released, installing Catalyst 11.6 allowed then to use 800MB out of 1GB, and GPU was finally working, in that case. Was a windows user though.
Drivers yes sir, I am pretty sure.

Re: Indigo Renderer and Indigo RT 3.0.14
This release is not better for my Asus EAH5850 DirectCU (HD 5850 1024 MB)!
It says that no support GPUs are found. Maybe a Problem with OpenCL? I installed the AMD APP SDK v2.4 with OpenCL support from here:
http://developer.amd.com/sdks/AMDAPPSDK ... fault.aspx
and Catalyst 11.6 but GPU-z says that opencl is not supported. My card should definitely support openCL but please look a the screenshot.
Has anyone else made some experience with ati cards?

you dont need to install the APP SDK.
If GPU-Z also reports that OpenCL is not supported, it sounds like this is a driver issue.

Re: Indigo Renderer and Indigo RT 3.0.14
i went from a gtx 550 to a 560 without any speed up gains... I assume the bootleneck was already reached
Re: Indigo Renderer and Indigo RT 3.0.14
Maybe (!?!) there is still room to enhance Indigo and expand that bottleneck a little :)pixie wrote:i went from a gtx 550 to a 560 without any speed up gains... I assume the bottleneck was already reached

i7 860: 900k s/s
+ HD5770: 1,6M s/s
800MB ram reported. Using catalyst 11.6 or something, I don't know. Drivers are messed up. Only drivers from windows update works. Shocking!? AMD drivers suck.
