Render Speed comparison (I7 2600K)

Post by solarray » Wed Jan 12, 2011 12:16 am

Is there anybody who still bought one of the new Intel I7 2600K ? The price is really
good and I want to compare it with my core 2 duo 2,4 Ghz.

So if someone got one please render a material of your choose in the material editor and tell
me how many samples/sec you got (and of cource which material you choose) (And without GPU)

thanks

only thing i can tell you is that comparing c2d and i7 series is relatively absurd. Im sure that i7 2600k is few times faster than ur current cpu. And i mean few times - up to 10

I recently compared my i7 870 to the Q6800 (I believe) of arneoog.
I'm rendering about twice as fast with my i7.
Comparison was done using Indigo 1.1.14.

A friend of my just ordered new a new PC based on this CPU.

Up to 10 times faster would be heavy.

Thanks Zom-B that would be really nice if you could do that.

cheers

I was quite busy the last days and forget to post them, I already had them

i7 2600k @ default clock
After 5min testscenes in default settings:

Pintest: 800k s/s
Erotica: 1163k s/s
Caterpillar: 404k s/s

@ZomB

It would be nice to see how your iMAc and AMD machines compare to the i7.

I was almost ready to build two (cheap) render slaves using AMD 1090 or 1100 when the "epic multithreading fail in PT mode" thread bubbled up and discouraged me somewhat.

My AMD x4 945 runs:
- Caterpillar at 210k
- Erotica at 570k
- PIntest at 410k
I have DDR2 and a not so recent motherboard (AM2 - DDR2)

The 12core bi-xeon at work runs Caterpillar at 1100k :)

Beware of AMD + PT galinette: http://www.indigorenderer.com/forum/vie ... =5&t=10219
Feel free to bump the threat if your scaling isn't linear too (counter-proofs are welcome too!!!)

i7 920 @3,66 Ghz rev D0

caterpillar : 404
erotica : 1140
pis : 800

as you can see, same values with OCed 920 as on stock 2600k.
(important is that i have rev D0. On C0/C1 isnt possible to have 3,66 on air with 1.25vcore)

My i7 930 at 4.2ghz and 1600mhtz ram speed is still faster :)
I'm surprised how fast the caterpilla scene is on my system.
Off course I don't run it at 4.2, 4 ghz mostly

v2.4.3
caterpilla 740k/sec
Erotica 1126k
Pins 862k

I'll be picking up at it i7 970 6 core CPU later on when they get superceded and much cheaper for a 50% boost :D

edit - it seems the caterpilla scene is slower with the latest Indigo build.
With v2.6.1 I get 308k with my i7 930 running at 4ghz

Seems these new Intel chips are very quick! I hate that, I just built this sytem not so long ago :(

rendering methods will give different numbers if they have been modified between versions, for comparisons it is mandatory to use the same Indigo version. I assume that most of you have used 2.6.1 so far.

Cool....i OCed 2600k to 4,0GHZ Stable with 1.18V for core !!!! As cooler i have Scythe Mine 2 on ultra low fan speed. With Corsair PSU is total silent pc during long renderings :)

Erotica 1400spp, cpu have 68 celsia after 1 hour of rendering! Thats awesome. I have still some space to push it up (probably 4,6ghz with 1.25vcore but temps will be higher).
