@Tom
Well that particular word in BIG RED LETTERS was there for a very good reason.

If you want to fix your installation, you will need to navigate into your .blender/scripts folder and delete blendigo.py and the folder blendigopkg.

If you then re-install 2.2 stable, it should be happy.

Sorry for the post bombing, but I'm trying to get this particle thing to work.

Particle children don't work. If they are enabled, it screams at me for not baking particles even if they are baked.

EDIT: @dougal2: Whoops :oops: I remember reading it too, but that was earlier when I downloaded it. Sorry!

EDIT2: Oh yeah, but I just mean so that when 2.3.x installs, it doesn't replace the 2.2 script so we can have both scripts in the scripts folder until 2.3.x matures. I know it's not for any serious work.

That's going to be a bit of a PITA to be honest. One way I can think of to use both is to create another user account on your machine, and install the experimental stuff there (and have a separate per-user blender installation). That way you can be sure that it's not going to interact with your stable setup.

Fair. I think I'll use my laptop for testing this new one and leave 2.2 stable on my quadcore desktop. I mainly do serious rendering on my desktop anyway.

By the way, here is my first grass test, as of this morning. Modeling took all of 10 minutes, no textures, only 3 objects so the scene is very light. 3 particle systems on the same lumpy terrain mesh, 2010000 particle instances. With children it would be even more :D

Thanks a ton, dougal2!

That looks amazing :shock: :D (especially considering how long it takes to set up).

Thanks, guys!

Another one, from eye level. You can see that the grass is kind of sparse, due to the lack of particle children and the 100 000 particle limit. But it works, and it gives a pretty good and random distribution of grass, even with only 2 grass objects.

With density mapping it should look even better...

Another one with a bit more complex object. I made 3 simple variations of a wheat... stick? stem? blade?

Rendered for 40 minutes on my laptop. So far, so good! No problems yet with the new script... (knock on wood)

Oh yeah, no texturing. No idea what the polycount is, but the scene is still very light.

Or you could always install another instance of Blender on your desktop computer. Its only about 40 MB anyways, and free...
