Can't get light bulb to work
Re: Can't get light bulb to work
I think this lightbulb model will be going in the techniques manual. Would you be happy with that Borgleader?
Re: Can't get light bulb to work
By the way - to anyone using the scene that I uploaded, there are also 2 emitters behind the camera and the upper left.

Hey Borgleader, just for the record: I cooked your original scene file overnight, and the bulb shows first signs of clearing up. So it is really just the thick glass, material-wise everything is fine.

I did a bulb scene too. Just to see if it works.
Rendered 2 days with bidir off and reached about 200k spp.

I really like that nice work.suvakas wrote:I did a bulb scene too. Just to see if it works.

But is it just me or do none of these renders look like real clear lit lightbulbs? The filaments just doesn't seem to 'glow' like a real one. Or at least like real ones do in photographs.
And using aperture diffraction just produces wierd results with these.

Yes we do need nice bloom and glare again in indigo!
Re: Can't get light bulb to work
How about this? This was about an hour's render. I was working on this before my computer ed out. The default settings for aperture diffraction.
I found rheinard gave the quickest result, although this is Camera Tonemapping with agfacolor 200CD (I think) and I set the ISO at ~600.

yeah but those are just default settings. can't I make it even more bloomy?
Borgleader one thing I notice about your scene is that the backdrop's color is almost black. I think this may be a major reason for the glass rendering dark?

Thats what I first thought. But a filament should easily light up all but a completely dark space - ie cat in a coal cellar.dmn wrote:yeah but those are just default settings. can't I make it even more bloomy?

But I agree the bgd did seem to be a big factor. I think it was decided that the glass of the bulb was too thick?
