help with a semi transparent gem

Post by Inlite » Fri Apr 24, 2009 8:01 pm

ok, ive bugged Smartden about this problem and he even fixed a file for me (it worked perfect) and i thought i had it sorted.....

it seems i dont, so i thought instead of bugging the poor guy again id ask around.
Im trying to render a simple gold ring with a gem in it and the gem keeps coming out black...

here are the screenshots:

I hope, smoothing is turned off?
And yes, turn off SSS... -except the gem shouldn't be clear...

Leave reinhard tonemapping alone, since the gem is the only light absorbing material in the sky (!) it has to be dark with reinhard tonemapping.

Also put the ring on some surface and use emitting ones for lighting.
obsolete asset

well, actually...
don't forget the gold^^ it also absorps. If it didn't, it'd be a perfectly grey-white reflector (a perfect mirror) rather than a golden one... :P
