Lights not working through glass

Post by cheese on toast2 » Thu Feb 28, 2008 8:48 am

Hi everybody.
I'm currently working on an Audi R8, some of you may have seen it in the new images upload gallery and I've come across a little problem. some of you may have seen the R8 and noticed that it has little 'fairy lights' under the main headlight. I tried to immitate this by adding emmissive spheres inside the headlights of my model, but when I render it, the lights do not show up from behind the glass. I've had this problem before with a different model and I decided to give up, but this time its annoying me so I wanna know how to fix it lol. does anybody have any idea why this might be happening?

thanks

do you mean that I've only applied the glass material to one side of the headlight? If so, then no, the glass texture is on both sides, and I dont think it could be a normals problem, because I've hit ctrl+n, and I've flipped the normals so many times in lots of different combinations that it couldn't possibly be that. Although, would the fact that the headlight glass is a plane be anything to do with it?

Yupp, ... it should be a "real" object which means a 'single sided' plane is
no good. So give it some thickness! This should solve your problem. :D ;)

take care
