BWC 2010 sponsoring

I just came across the Blender World Cup 2010 site, and what do I see: Sponsored by Indigo Renderer. Indigo is even mentioned in the rules as a dedicated tool (beside lux)! 1st prize seems to be an Indigo license, at least.

As soon as that site goes live, it's official. So yes, the next Blender World Cup will be using Indigo (Or Lux), with a prize of a full Indigo licence.

Because many Blender users like it because of the free as in beer and hate everything they have to pay for or the are completely into the spirit of open source und hate everything commercial.
That's stupid of course, for Blender to be successful as a tool it has to integrate into existing pipelines and work well together with commercial software.

Anyway I'm taking part in BWC2010 for sure!

The Blender community doesn't exactly hate commercial software in general - or Indigo for being commercial. Most just feel that Indigo going commercial was a bad course of action and they feel somewhat betrayed. I suspect most entries will be made with Luxrender...

Yes its a nice render dakiru, congratulation. But I think it should also be said that your image doesn't fit to the contests topic of a "stop motion film" ... "hand made scale..." ... "in a fun and quirky way". Anyway it isn't really problematic because most of the entries doesn't fit to the topic.

Thats why I also don't really agree with a decision to let the community vote for a competition, rather than let it decide from a jury. A Jury who have in most times more the ability to find the best images regarding different aspects. Maybe this is a section where the terms "community" and "open..." (from open source) should not be used.

Yes, that's easily possible. To be honest, I didn't try extremely to get exactly along with the requirements, because at the start it was hard for me to clearly define what the stop-motion render is. So, it was a process for fun to get the representation of my idea of it.

True is, that some really great works were submitted and I agree, that professional jury would estimate the professional criteria better.
