 It's amazing ... sometimes I get the feeling that some people can't
appreciate such a software for free - you know, they don't have any control
about it and that hurts. Well they could contribute to make it even better ...
anyway, on the other hand, it's really a pitty, that if it costs money they
demand to get updates, add-on's and shit for free. If I read such
posts my heart brakes ... sorry if I sound harsh or rude, but I can't
understand it ... tsk, tsk, zzzZz.

I agree with psor's post. Indigo is free. We should all be grateful and appreciative that it even exists and send MASSIVE praise to Nick who originally only did this software for his own personal use!!

Big up the Nick! :D

I agree with psor 100%. It seems some people want to push the commercialisation idea on Nick so they can buy it and thus have the power to request upgrades with threats like "im not buying until such and such is integrated"...

It frustrates me. Please talk about this stuff only if Nick explicitly says "It'll go commercial" and it has not happened yet. And from the sound of it it wont happen anytime soon, which is good, just take the free gift and say thanks :)

*Thanks Nick!*

At times like this I lose hope.

Why can't indigo be free? Why do some people always equate all good things in life with money? It is all very depressing.

All this talk is making of commercialism is making me wary - Nick has said that indigo will always be free and I trust him. Unfortunately, threads like this may tempt him to go down the flawed (in my opinion) commercial route of selling indigo. I have no problem with Nick making money from indigo and I have already given suggestions on honest ways of doing so without betraying the community.

From a selfish point of view (as in for all users), I would like to see a little more development by Nick alone before seeing indigo go open source. As for Nick's benefit, I think he should open source anyway and make himself money selling services or code for network use. He could be successful that way - more so than just selling indigo. Personally, I think the market for renderers is both oversaturated and overpriced.

Indeed, that was one of my former observation when I came to that forum. I won't tell names but I was quite shocked. Obviously these people can afford M*l and imho this is by far more selfish than everything, why are they around ?

I'm selfish because I want Nick to keep working on Indigo, I agree. But I would prefer that the community would give Nick a salary for that, rather than not being able to afford the *legal* use of Indigo.

If Nicholas needs, he just has to ask the community. With pride, because we enjoy Indigo.

I'm part of the community, definitly.

That was my opinion.

At the beginning I was not sure, but when you started to say "Nick's interest this Nick's interest that" I reconized your style with no doubt possible. Yes Big Fan you are that person.

AFAIK (not much I agree) Nick is someone who can express himself, and that's my main point. I'm not trying to say what he should do or not, I never will, I wish. Even if that would be "just my opinion".

My personal belief is that Nicholas knows what he can afford or not, and that if he can't he should ask us, and then we'll see "what community". If you're right then he will make the right choice. Its own.

I'm not claiming over his generosity being expecting that I will be given a handout in perpetuity and that his skills and effort are a gift to us or worse, a right. I don't like that way of telling things you have, actually I hate it. This is how "fair minded" people change others mind, and that is of course because they know others "best interests". I'm not saying your statements are wrong (probably owes him $100,000, various worldly reasons, people's claimings, living in NZ, our own selfish needs etc etc), I'm saying I'm against the principle wich leads kings to lose their crown.

I'm claiming that some people may show more respect to the man, his choices and (I regret that) his silence. To me, respect is accepting the gift as long as it is a gift, accepting the rule of the kingdom as lons as there is a kingdom, to me saying how a king should rule is not respect.

We are the kings of our own lifes.

I may be ingratefull as a person but as a part of a wannabe community I want to be different.

"The best way users of Nicks software could give him a salary is" the way Nick will say.

Oh and what makes me love Indigo is precisely that it is not "just like any other program that people make writing their main occupation". My point is that if money becomes an issue we, the wannabe community, should be the first willing to help, both the man and his project, because he gave us (as for now) Indigo. That may be unsuccessfull, but if you are right, Big Fan, when you say the situation is not viable for Nicholas, then something has to be attempted, for sure.

Oh and at the end all that jazz is just harmful to what we pretend to defend, putting more pression and anxiety to everyone, not just the lambda user I mean !

Me too wish silence for now, till some official word comes out, no hurry. Everything belongs to one person, and that person don't need to read such sterile debates.

Useless, exhausting jazz !

Bah !
