website suggestion

Post by neo0. » Sun Jun 14, 2009 7:26 pm

Instead of text for the top bar, it might be more aesthetically pleasing to use graphic icons for each section (Home, Download, Materials, etc.) If you guys want to go the extra mile, you might even want to animate it, like icons fading in and out when you hover over them.. :)

No. Just no.
This is a business' website, not a kids "webdesigners nono tryout"-playground
Go read some webdesigning baselines...

Well, definitely not as fancy as you described, but the website's aesthetics could certainly be improved.

That looks pretty nice. I guess the eneormous amount of white space is really the core of the problem. :) .

How about rounded edges for the top bar drop downs?

"Less is more" doesn't apply to the aesthetic of a site imo. If that were true, then why not just make it look like a word pad document? That is the logical conclusion of that idea after all  The site does look a little minimalistic right now, but, comming from a 2nd year graphic design major, I don't think the look "works.: :) If a more detail oriented approach were taken towards the aesthetics, I think browsing experience could be improved. :D The plain text buttons are what really get me.. They look too much like hyper links I guess. If a nonstandard font were used, the underline replaced by bold to make them look more "there"..

As I said, I like Godzillas look, but not the underline used for showing what is currently selected. Instead, maybe change the color around it? Maybe to a more desaturated tone? Check out this example from facebook... I don't like the hard edges though either.

The icons I was referring to wouldn't be purely graphic either. They would still have text to convey their meaning.
