Is this the secret to Indigo's awesome rendering?

I think I read somewhere that Indigo uses physics to render, is this true? And why else is Indigo SO DARN GOOD???? A trillion times better than YAFRAY :D

most renderers tend to use the laws of physics to at least some extent. Indigo just takes it a lot further. and depends what you use it for.

No, Modude. It's just the laws of physics.
And generally (if you don't mean the *exact* laws), it's not that special ;) Any 3D renderer, which is supposed to at least output a "somewhat" photo-real result, uses the laws of physics.
YafRay does.
Even the Blender Internal renderer does, but in a far loose way than Indigo's strict but therefore slower behaviour of following the laws with as little mistake as possible.

yeah its how accurate it is, or how much of the laws of physics it takes into account.

It's important to point out that it is not necessarily the renderer that produces great images, it's the artist. A renderer is just a tool, it doesn't do everything for you.

However, some renderers are more suited for certain tasks. Indigo's way of handling lighting very accurately allows for an easier way to create realistic images.

I actually use mental ray for most of my work, simply because it's faster and more flexible (hides in the corner :( ). But I often come running to indigo whenever I need to have realistically simulated lighting. It's accurate enough that I sometimes even use it as a reference for myself when I work in mental ray - even more accurate than other unbiased renderers in my opinion.

noyb: I think we're mature enough here to know when to use a renderer, and not lambast someone for not using Indigo. :)

For example, animations? Use a regular scanline renderer.

Seriously though, learning Indigo has made my mentalray renders better... I don't think any other renderer has done that for me.
