Light Labyrinth

Hi! I was just working on a test, Indigo VS :twisted: Maxwell :twisted: :D and, I was rendering a "Light Labyrinth". This is just a little scene to see how light is transported and how Indirect Illumination comes into play.

Anyway- I think I screwed something up about the Maxwell one (but yeah, it's the demo) so I will probably rerender it tomorrow.

Apart from a few normal smoothing issues (which I will turn off on my next render) it looks really good. Cleared up very fast as well.

After 2hrs45mins and 2500 mutations per pixel I got this (all materials are phongs, with a VERY low exponent)

Which is much faster then the Maxwell 1.0.1 one... cleared up MUCH faster :) :D Nick- YOU ARE DA MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

why looking for a winner? maxwell is a commercial package and
you should not compare it with a freeware one.
indigo's quality is very high and this is what matters.

oh, I'm not looking for a winner. For me, Indigo is more useable, but I just wanted to test light transport compared to Maxwell.

Indigo glass renders better than Maxwell Glass. I could prove that.

Ok ... I expected a difference in noise but i I didn't expect that theres so a huge difference in lighttransport and colour.
But hey ... indigo is a still a baby - when indigo is grown up it will be the rocker :twisted:

I actually think, now that manitwo pointed it out, that Indigo's light transport is better. Of course, if I cranked up the Iso in Maxwell, then some areas would eb more illuminated.

I think my problem was that on the Indigo one, I used Indigo Diffuse, but on the Maxwell one I used a material with 92 roughness (100 is lambertian).

anyway- I still think that Indigo has true-er Global Illumination.

i personally don't think there's a huge difference, and actually the case
that the indigo scene is stronger illuminated acts as an advantage for
maxwell to converge faster (or at least the noise is less observable).

Quite an interesting difference in the amount of colour bleeding; apart from that, the two renders are quite similar (altho the indigo one has more noise)

edit: perhaps this is due to the reflectivity of the indigo walls being higher?

Notice the bottom of cup. It's so dark! Maybe my material is setting wrong...

Very interesting comparison Wzn, I think the cause of the dark area in the maxwell render is the infamous 'sunlight thru glass' issue.

well...im new in indigo its very very promising an of course its free and non comercial it a alpha version...comparing to maxwell its unfair..:)
