volume emitters are quite different, and a lot more difficult

It's handled as an additional texture option for meshlights.
At some point in the future I may do a big re-architect to make emitter materials, but not yet

does this mean you could put a big sky (or whatever) background image on a plane and make it an emitter?

would that be so much differrent from a JPG-converted .exr?
-that's an other request, btw: can we use .exr for those emitters?

I can't seem to get those exr's to work. not sure if it is because I use sketchup to indigo or? but they always come out all stretched out looking.
seems you'd have more control this way.

Not sure if this would be useful.. most exrs are spherical or lat/long env maps
