hi guys, the other day i was enjoying a mint when i saw its cover, the shiny-reflectant-non-uniform material (check below), and then i recall the Compact Disc material, how would you do these materials? i was thinking of the CD (the rainbow-like effect), with a lot cauchy and micro-bumpmap or even micro-displacement... but the "holografic" material of the ice breakers ad how could it be done? im not trying to use them on any scene, i just wandered ☺ ,.... yeah, the curiosity killed the cat, fortunately im not a cat

Curiosity on materials...
From México, Daniel Nieto .·.
Its called diffraction. The microscopic grooves on the disk (or on the mint wrapper) cause interference at different magnitudes for each color of white light and so it separates them. Indigo can't do this realistically because it doesn't model the light rays at the wavelength level. For indigo, rays are only straight lines basically. It would be easier to fake it, but that would defeat the purpose of an unbiased renderer. I don't think Ono is planning to implement it.
Although it would be nice
