Post by tinman999 » Wed May 09, 2007 12:25 pm

Here is a win32 program that convert most of the RGB colour to NK

Just enter the rgb value and press 'To NK' button. The result nk data should be display in the big edit box.

Open Notepad, paste (the data is automatically copy to clipboard, if not just right click on the big edit box, select all and copy)
and save :)

What's all this recent fuss about custom nk materials?

What's the point of setting a single colour, then calculating the nk values for it and using it for a material instead of a phong material with that specific colour?

The main reason is to provide the user with a start point to create custom nk.

Depending on the implementation of the fresnel equation (unpolarised or polarised light, approximation or using the actual fresnel equation. Indigo's phong model used approximation possibly schlick's approximation to the fresnel equation) refraction index is needed instead of the reflectance values. Approximate fresnel equation can't simulate the sightly different colour changes when the media surrounding the object have ior <> 1 or polarisation effect.

could you add a reversed version?
I'd like to use nk-ish things with SSS or difuse (which actually should be possible by using Exp 0-1) or st. like that :D

AND it would be great, if you'd add the IoR, too.

Those balls look great, already!

great work tinman :D

would it be possible to code some kind of fresnel control to this nice little Program to enable effects like VOID.nk got:

Image

control over the fresnel effect would make some nice (basic) Car Paint possible, and more...

hmm... very nice and useful thing, but i see it creates only first column of numbers, what about the second? to get the same color should it be order-inversed first column or sth other?

that's what he already said...
2nd = IoR. If it isn't set, there are two possibilitys (dunno, which one's correct...):
a) you can set it by hand
b) there is a standard setting...
