Mac Pro: OpenCl rendering: max path depth

Post by tornello » Mon Feb 19, 2018 11:45 pm

Hello I have a Mac Pro and I can't understand 2 things :?
I have 2 AMD FirePro D500 3 GB and when I open Indigo render settings I see in the list of OpenCl also the Intel Xeon CPU E5-1650 see screenshot

1) When I use OpenCl rendering is it better to use also Xeon CPU?
2) What is the numbers of "max path depth" to use?

Thank you to read my terrible english

To answer your questions,

1. It's probably better not to use the CPU, though you are welcome to do a quick test to see if it helps

2. It's the number of bounces of light to compute with the GPU, I think you could use a default value of 8 and maybe try higher if you have very complex glass scene or something.

Hello and Thank you very much for your answers :D

I am testing last Indigo for the first time and so 8 is default number, regardless of the power of the PC?

Yes, it only affects the number of indirect illumination bounces; 8 is fine for basically all scenes except with complex glass reflections and refractions.
