New card, slower rendering..
New card, slower rendering..
Ok... so I just installed my new GTX 1070 which is running well and with latest drivers. and.... it SLOWED DOWN my rendering speed, marginally.
Previously I operated from the integrated intel GPU, not very powerful. But the 1070 made it worse - samples per second is marginally down compared to pre-installation.
Question - is the GPU useful only for Open CL rendering? Open CL does not yet work with Glossy Transparent materials (colours are way out) so I've been using normal bi-directional. Should the GPU make any difference for this rendering method, or only for Open CL?
I'd appreciate your thoughts on this - sorry I'm still a bit of a newbie on this.
Thanks all

Re: New card, slower rendering..
Sorry - should have added that I'm on the V4 Beta.

Re: New card, slower rendering..
your benchmark is okay for your hardware I think. Rendering in BiDir has nothing to do with your graphics. This only uses your CPU. No idea why it is slower with dedicated graphics card installed.

Re: New card, slower rendering..
GPU only works in OpenCL mode, so your new card is up to 10 times faster in the Supercar scene, and 6,3 times faster for the bedroom interior... where exactly is the problem??nmeau wrote:... and benchmarks:
The missing material support will be done at some point, I guess once v4 is out of beta we'll have full feature support regarding materials!

Re: New card, slower rendering..
Thanks Vasco and Zom-B, the whole problem seems to be rooted in the glossy transparent issue with Open CL and is specific for the first scene I tried to render with the new card. It should clear up once GT is properly supported. I've tested a few scenes in other lighting and the new card works beautifully with Open CL.

You're not using light layers, are you?

If you'd upload the scene, maybe we could take a look and see what makes GPU look different.
