Recreate a video intro

Post by davide445 » Mon Nov 09, 2015 7:03 am

Want to recreate and improve using C4D + Indigo this video intro, I did create some months ago using a VFX software.

https://youtu.be/Pp7LIyr59xA

Apart C4D R16 Studio I can use X Particles plugin. My goal is obtain a more elegant and realistic result, more realistic in the lights, clouds, destruction, possibly adding 3d shapes into the logo dissolve sequence.

Some preliminary questions:

- There are any specific material I need to use in Indigo for the moving clouds?
- How does Indigo integrate with X Particles?

Ambitious project, pal.
Concerning all that stuff you definately shouldn't realize in full 3D imho:
How long do you plan to render all that volumetrics?
I'd rather consider to get better vfx plugins for most of the effects, like trapcode particular, optical flares, turbulence fd etc.
And if you already used them: learn to use them better. :-)
But nevertheless: good luck; I think we are quite interested in your progress and result!

Agree, Indigo just isn't the right tool for animating clouds ATM, as it doesn't render those kind of volumetrics very efficiently currently.

I created this intro in 3 working days using HitFilm Pro, a VFX/3d compositing/color correction/video editing sw similar to AE, with many advantages IMHO. Starting with almost no knowledge of the package and need to say almost no knowledge of the whole concept (VFX/3d etc). So no usage of C4D/Indigo right now.

I'm satisfied of the result considering the time I did dedicated, but I'm not satisfied about the quality. I can try to improve it using HFP refining effects, anti aliasing etc (and also learning it better!), but I did feel overwhelmed with the whole workflow, mixing 3d and 2d with layers logic.

But: I can't afford to purchase all the plugins you did point out, so just C4D + X Particles + Indigo + any free useful C4D plugin.

Maybe I did only need to concentrate on the logo destruction and clouds in 4D and leave all the other (light flares, mirror, water ripple) to HFP, using OpenEXR format exchange.

Check out turbulence4d; there is a free Demo with a watermark... Or better: I strongly recommend the blender fluids. Nice smoke and dust, easy to setup at absolutely no cost.
I heard of hitfilm... maybe I should give it a try. Thanks for the hint!

Before committing with c4d I did evaluate all the various 3d modelling/animation systems, Blender does have a lot of features but I did find atrocious his UI. Prefer to beg for a c4d nfr license than spend my little time trying to understand Blender chaotic workflow.

Apart Turbolence FD I did evaluate RealFlow (way too complex) and Navié Effex, any reason to choose Effex vs Turbolence FD? Any other useful?

I don't know if Samir continues the development of Navie, to ne honest. Turbulence is being used by a lot of people in the industry... apart from the fact that more and more people are switching to the all-in-one-grandmaster: Houdini.
The only hint that I can give to you: evaluate what fits best to your needs, and take your time for evaluating.

Looking at C4D Pyrocluster, Indigo does recognize generated object and meshes?

Meshes yes. The rest: no.
Pyrocluster, or thinking particles, also is quite imperformant in comparison to xparticles. You have to shoot a lot of particle primitives.

https://hitfilm.com/pro v4 was just released, worth a try IMHO.
