Light layers & background settings

Post by icheon » Thu Aug 13, 2015 9:46 pm

Hello Indigo community !
First, sorry for my poor english...

I am looking for information about light layers and the possibilities they offer.
I would like to adjust the lighting of a scene, choosing an HDR or a diffuse RGB light .
These settings are linked in background, I don't know if that's possible.

Have you tested things about it ? Is there any examples?

Thank you in advance for your reply!

I had to express myself poorly ... Sorry :(

I know what is light layers and background settings. I would like to know if it's possible to manage background settings with light layers. I would like to have 2 background settings in one scene (in one rendering).

For example, a scene could be , in layer one, lighted by an HDR, and on layer two, light by an RGB diffuse solution.

That is indeed possible - pretty much everything is possible with light layers. You can have one light layer with your daylight stuff (HDRI, Sun etc) and one layer with all your indoor lights and "night mode" stuff. Then you can make a single render, and turn the daylight layer off and night mode layer on, to switch between your lighting situations back and forth, without rerendering.

Check this video at 1.27:

It's one single render, but tweaked light layers. :)

Thanks for your reply. Beautyfull video!

That's what I need. Do you know if there is some example (code) of this method somewhere?

Edit : I use only Max and Indigo so I think I need to wrote the lights layers myself. And I can't find any tutorial of this function.

You don't have to use any code for that, and you definitely don't need to be a brain surgeon to use the function.

You need this plugin to use 3DS Max with Indigo:

Here's how to use light layers in blender (don't ask what happened to the aspect ratio):

I work on 3dsmax design 2015, it seems Maxigo doesn't work on this version. I will make some screenshots and post errors i had.

I tried on 3dsmax 2014 (on a simple scene with just a cube). But i can't find where I can add layers like in your video example. When you install Maxigo, do you need to add some special menu in the interface?

I can't install Blender to test this solution.

What is it that prevents you from installing Blender ?

Also, if the exporter throws error messages, then you need to post these in the Forum section for that exporter. Sometimes help is vey quick here!
