Dear all,
The recent i7 5820K is appealing in benchmarks. Do someone has an idea of the Indigo performance with it? I'm hesitating between a 4770K and this new one, which has two more cores, but a much higher TDP.
Cheers,
Etienne

Unfortunately we generally don't have such super high end hardware here But the i7 4770k is really great, I've overclocked ours to 4.1GHz (via 120mhz base clock, not just the CPU multiplier) and then it's super fast; you'll want a pretty good cooler for this kind of overclocking too.
(IMO it's silly to get the k-version CPU and not overclock it, because that's precisely what Intel are selling with those versions: they take away some virtualisation features, charge a little more, and provide an unlocked multiplier for overclocking. If you don't want to overclock rather get the 4770 non-k version, since it has those VM features and is a bit cheaper.)

No shit, Intel does offer an insurance for overclocking-related defects for some of their K-chips... but it adds another like 30$ to the price, on top of the additional 60-100$ for the new fan.
I'm at 4,5GHz with no issues for almost two years now.
But I am also interested in what even more cores will do to Indigo!

The 5820K is sold at a very interesting price, around 380$, vs 330$ for the 4770K. That's not a huge difference! Clearly not a super high end hardware, as opposed to the 59xx series.lycium wrote:Unfortunately we generally don't have such super high end hardware here

its also a decision between DDR3 vs DDR4!galinette wrote:The 5820K is sold at a very interesting price, around 380$, vs 330$ for the 4770K. That's not a huge difference! Clearly not a super high end hardware, as opposed to the 59xx series.
If you still have a bag full of DDR3 in your actual system I would go for the 4770k, or even better a 4790k (~305€)!

Whoa, I didn't know the 6-core is selling for so little. Then yeah, as Zom-B said, it's down to price of motherboard and (mainly) DDR4.
Indigo responds very well to additional cores and memory channels, as tested on an 8-core Xeon in the Mac Pro, so I expect it to be quite worthwhile.

I've tested Indigo on a customer 2x8core bi-xeon (32 threads) some times agolycium wrote:Whoa, I didn't know the 6-core is selling for so little. Then yeah, as Zom-B said, it's down to price of motherboard and (mainly) DDR4.

By the way I have a brand new FirePro W8100, ready for benchmarks if you need some testing.

Hey, I am planning on getting a w8100 this week?
Should i go for it? or am I better off with a quadro or a GTX ?
Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.
