Render Nodes running on different OS

Post by Andreas » Thu Feb 27, 2014 8:20 am

Hi,

can you have render node servers running on different OS?

Right now I have 3 Mac Minis and one iMac doing the rendering. That was convenient to set up, but probably not the most cost effective option.
Now that one Mac Mini died after nearly continuos rendering for 2.5 years I am looking into other options: some Super Micro Rack Server - it will surely not run Mac OS - can it run next to the 2 remaining Mac Minis?

Yes, multi OS Network rendering should work fine!

Did OS X + Win rendering before, worked smooth as silk :)
Bu I have no experience with Linux...

But at the moment there are some reports for network issues for some users with the new 3.8 beta,
but that should be a solvable problem once it can be pined down.
