Glass Material - nevermind I'm RTFM

Post by Slobodan » Wed Jan 31, 2007 1:38 pm

Hi guys,

Can someone help me to build a glass material.
I know, I know it should be easy but not for me. I even tried all the samples in testscenes folder and i get following message:

"found unexpected element "IOR" xxxxxxx ?
I tried with medium, specular etc. and it just doesn't work.
What am I doing wrong??

Thanks,
Slobodan

Ono,

It looks like something is broken in 0.7t3. IOR thing doesn't work anymore.
The same scene works fine with t2 but not with t3.

Just taught to let you know.

Thanks,

Hey Slobodan, don't panic ! Code has changed for medium between 0.7t2 and 0.7t3, that's why :)

For glass, <medium> needs a <basic> child, in fact just trust the errors Indigo outputs and follow them, removing what's unexpected and adding what's expected.

OnoSendai released a doc for 0.7t3 in a separate thread, search for it either into News and Announcements, or General Stuff. You will see the tag by tag description is up to date, but the final example lacks the actually needed <basic> child, as opposed to <dermis> and <epidermis>.

Just follow Indigo's outputs ;)

Thanks CTZn for clarifying.
That's what confused me, I look at document and follow tags but at the end example is different.

thanks again :) :) :)

@Deus: Don't you think that was a little harsh on a noob? I don't think the forums are here just for the pros to wax philosophical about the merits of different APIs. I thought they were also for helping people out.

@Slobodan: There is some truth to what Deus failed to say in a polite way. You don't have to address Ono to get a general question answered. Also, if you're using the latest test release, it's kind of expected that you're comfortable doing the research. But I saw that you read that doc and were just confused by the example. So I guess that last point is really just for the general public. I'm glad your issue was resolved.

Point taken. I'm sure nobody has any hard feelings - I don't. It is cool to see a new face.

Wow, I didn't know that "ONO" in the subject meant so much. I guess I have to learn how to express my self writing since it's much different then talking.
Well, I didn't take offence on Deus comment and I did RTFM. As from my previous post.
Also, I addressed ONO since I thought that was a bug in the new release, nothing else.

I'm sorry for being a newbie and trying.

Thanks,

Slobodan

Sorry Slobodan. Its just that when I am in america and have a problem i dont call the president. I start with a local police officer. Do you understand the metaphor?

You'll learn indigo in no time :)

@Slobodan: could you please post your glass material code?
I also went thru the 36 pages of the 07t4 manual and still haven't been able to create glass :( Just succeeded with phong.
