Re: Wanted: nice render with new Sun/Sky model
here's what I've been playing with - not sure if it shows off the sky enough, but I could try some other angles.
but I definitely see the difference, new sky model is awesome!

some nice examples here but can I just say there is a lot of vignetting in most of them - is there still no option to manage this? of course if that is the effect you guys are after then just ignore

Indeed there is, I use it all the time.Doug Armand wrote:some nice examples here but can I just say there is a lot of vignetting in most of them - is there still no option to manage this? of course if that is the effect you guys are after then just ignore

Well for me this is not vignetting at all. Vignetting is due to a lens and appears in every corner of picture. This is just difference of tones in the sky, which is 100% normal in a regular sky with such sky.Doug Armand wrote:some nice examples here but can I just say there is a lot of vignetting in most of them - is there still no option to manage this? of course if that is the effect you guys are after then just ignore

Indeed Indigo has some vignetting exactly as a lens does. More precisely, it used to be mandatory and not configurable, and since a few versions it has the option of not vignetting. This vignetting in Indigo is due to a geometric effect and is one of the many reasons why a real lens may have vignetting.everwind wrote:Well for me this is not vignetting at all. Just render a pure white envmap with no geometry and a wide angle lens setting, and you will see what I mean...

Just render a pure white envmap with no geometry and a wide angle lens setting (and the new option to not vignet turned off), and you will see what I mean...

I've made something like this with my Stonehange scene: http://youtu.be/Cs-rDC1gw4kgalinette wrote:Animating time of the day over these scenes would be very nice!

Really astounding scene, nice work !
At the risk of sounding harsh however, I regret that aperture diffraction was not used but it would probably have been too costly for the few really concerned frames (those featuring sun captures).

Re: Wanted: nice render with new Sun/Sky model
Hi Guys!
Glad you like this anim
CTZn, I've been actually trying to render it with aperture diffraction (AD Post Process) turned on, but for some reason I couldn't achieve desired quality/render speed with it. It caused overall bluriness of the image (look at the first images I've posted in this thread [I've removed fireflies in photoshop and adjusted the sharpness as well but it still looks somewhat blurry]), huge amount of fireflies and really weird huge reddish circular artifacts at certain sun angle (sun near horizon, camera just above the ground).
I think it might be due to the size of the scene (ground plane size is 290x230m) and high reflectivity of grass
(60% Phong component with ior 10 mixed with blend of diffuse transmiter and phong ior 3.0), cause fireflies didn't show up with diffuse material set for the grass. I didn't try to downscale the scene and it's my first scene that big, so not really sure how the scale is affecting final image.
I've tried with physical diffraction as well, and it looked quite good, but than again had to use Path Tracing with MLT what resulted in really long rendering time to achieve clear sky without noise and diffraction effect was still unsatisfying.
Anyway the scene needs couple more fixes so I'm still playing with it and maybe will render it again when I'll get some more idle CPU time
