cool!!!
That's what I've been waiting for so we can all get busy designing some kick butt and strange materials.

Good !

And shame on me, unlike what I've declared I haven't been working on this, only thought about it  Well, thoughts make nice renders too ^^

Sounds great!

It'll be nice to have a material testing scene, particularly with the sss now.

That is class. I love the 'i' shape. does it have any sub-surf bars or bubbles in the green material?

That's a nice model,
and much thanks to your colleague,
but I think it's a bit close to the maxwell version..

its a cool preview scene, although it does look much to much like maxwell.
in theory the scene design should be simple, modern, and professional, yet completely different from the maxwell scene.

this scene also does not allow for the testing of SSS materials as everything is similar width.

to change this, i would say instead of a base, have tentacles somehow extending out of it, sort of like a "walking eye" just fatter. Maybe give the ball very primitive ears (or ear).

as for the background and lighting- i'm seeing this currently as supspended in a box by a wire with its tenticles hanging down with the lighting coming from unseen places at the top and bottom. the box should have different color sides except behind the material which should be white, sort of like a tall cornell box.

possibly for materials with sss, the scene could be modified so that the bottom half of the back of the box is an emmiter.

Or get rid of the base and give it a pair of wings.

Finally I'm working on this too, TopMod can help generating a very wide range of shapes, spherical like or not.

Where can I find a highrez image of the Indigo logo ? This one wich is on top of the page, the circle... I would then make a geometry out of it to be engraved in the shape(s).

Some examples almost there... quick and dirty (lambert for all):

Image
Candidate n°1 is a bit aggressive but has been improved somewhere else

Candidate n°2 is crappy

Candidate n°3 is out of topic

I can add sharp edges, hollow one triangular face with a logo etc

I mean I did these within a relatively short time, like 1h all together (that is 50mn for the last, wich is too intricated I think).

Well, let's say I'm in a competition with your boss Radiance, I sincerly hope he won't be upset if I come in now... I would in fact

Ok say I will work on this when I wake up, I should have participated a while back already...

If I'm just bugging everyone, tell me then that's ok I can take it (for true, I'm a big boy by now :) )

I think we need something with both sharp and smooth edges, I kind of really liked yours (RADIANCE'S), the original model. If you guys feel like it give me a couple of days and I'll see what I can come up with, this is kinda hard 'cause this will be our little baby...and she has to look nice and tidy, maybe even SEXY :) :) :)

On this new one I do like the "i" idea, but yes like Nick said, it does look a bit close to Maxwell, I don't think we want any similarity with Maxwell, we have to stand for ourselves here, and the mat preview will become almost like an Indigo signature, just tell me if you want me to go and give it a try, or at least for a basic idea, and then maybe someone can refine it a little more.

EDIT: I can try something keeping the (i) on the ball or maybe do a boolean of the whole word "indigo"

Just tell me if you want me to try it so I go ahead and start busting my butt.....

Bump :)

http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/fo ... =9197#9197

There is an obj to download behind the picture !

I'm having hard time setting the chart up, since I can't seem to render using textures from the very beginning I'm using Indigo  Not xml related, I got that clear and Indigo too... drops no error... I may post an xml scene though, tell me if that's better here or there... I would prefer here as the other thread is lost amongst a whole bunch of stickies.
