The material preview should maximally have a texture on a small location, but not all over the shape, as you wont see .nk (bumpmap only) or SSS mats, with textures, yet...

whats the problem? if you want to show pure nk-mats simply dont use a texture. but a good uv-layout for texture preview is necessary imo. (over the whole shape)

I just mean, the modell shouln't be textured, as default...
It should be UVmapped, but not textured.

But it doesn't matter.
You're right, if you don't want a texture, don't use it.

I don't want to discuss this any longer :P

I've been playing around some more with my material preview model. I've added lights. There are now 8 preview xml files that can be invoked from blendigo with different filenames referring to the different light setups. But the basic light setups are:

Which, when combined in photoshop, and animated, make quite and interesting preview animation:

Sorry about the large files :oops: once the movie file is loaded, you can scrub through it to get a strobe light ;)

the bottom light version is fantastic
i like it.
But when the material preview will be official to create a meterial library like maxwell?
