I think in a near future openCL dedicated hardware will follow the NVida Tesla path, perhaps in the form of PCI cards:Borgleader wrote:By much more memory what do you mean? Sounds like another "physX card" type thing, interesting for enthusiasts, unknown to most consumers.juan_irender wrote:I think in a near future openCL dedicated hardware will follow the NVida Tesla path, perhaps in the form of PCI cards:Borgleader wrote:By much more memory what do you mean? 1500 $ for the actual baseline Tesla, seems a bit overpriced for a toy .Borgleader wrote: Sounds like another "physX card" type thing, interesting for enthusiasts, unknown to most consumers.
No, what I mean is that future GPUs products could be less game (directX) oriented, we will see.

Two links related with Tesla products:
- The Dell Precision T7500 WS, go to the "GPU computing" section: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/ ... =bsd&cs=04
- The TSubame supercomputer of Tokyo Institute of Technology, recently upgraded with 170 Tesla units: http://news.softpedia.com/news/First-NV ... 8136.shtml

Just stumbled upon this:
Luxrender with OpenCL (SmallLuxGPU)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnFzpYCl ... re=channel
I hope there's some secret development going on at glaretec.
Don't want Luxrender to be the first unbiased renderer to officially support OpenCL.

That looks pretty badass....
Hope Glare is working on something just as cool, if not cooler!

I don't care who is being first. At some point all important render engines will support it anyway. ;o))
Take a look at the thread at beyond3d. It's quite scary how fast a Radeon HD 5870 is working.
Especially if you have in mind that Fermi is at the horizon.
take care

OnoSendai picked a wonderful time to go on vacation. I mean, 340 k samples per sec..? Im lucky if I can pull 50k...psor wrote:I don't care who is being first. At some point all important render engines will support it anyway. ;o))

340K or more is not actually uncommon if you have a quadcore.neo0. wrote:340 k samples per sec..? Im lucky if I can pull 50k...
with an i7 you can get 1000K+ in simple scenes.

What do you mean by simple? Currently, I have a wineglass scene with around 25,000 polies.. Simple like that?
