Google's browser

Post by pixie » Wed Sep 03, 2008 10:06 am

Google has released Chrome a new browser based on Open Source technologies such as WebKit and Mozilla.

I'm quite impressed with it, so much that I've made it my default browser! :D

Yah I tried it, too...
Great thing, BUT(!!!) the installer fucks up BIG TIME on my win xp sp2 system and I can't explain why and the browser keeps "lagging" every 2 minutes which I aswell cant explain...
So I'll stick to Firefox3 for now.

There's a nice video regarding the philosophy behind Chrome.

dougal, no need to worry, it's just webkit underneath (= no extra testing needed vs. safari and others embedding wk)

I LOVE chrome already.

Give me a noscript and gesture extension and I will make this my default browser.

For fun, those of you trying it: see that anchor in the bottom left of the text box you're typing in to reply to me? Drag it.

Well, it's not just Safari, QT4 embeds webkit, some other projects use it too.

I'm sad there isn't a Linux build yet :(

Actually, I've been using it at work today. The Javascript Console/inspector is actually pretty good (very similar to FireBug for Firefox), and has highlighted a few errors that have so far gone un-noticed

It's also nice to be able to use webkit on PC without using safari, which I *hate* with a passion.

The direct address-bar google search is nice, but I miss the Wikipedia search box next to it.

This browser will probably get me to switch from Opera as soon as we get some extensions for it...

There are a few bugs I've noticed - text goes missing in text boxes sometimes (after a soft-break), the tab titles and icons aren't always correct for their contents, favicons won't work on some sites.

'till now, I like it very much :D
Especially the space-saving tab-in-uppermost-bar-thingy is great (as far as I see at first glance)

The textbox I'm writing into, right now, can be resized dynamically, which also is interesting :)

@zsouthbody: did you see the page symbol in the upper right corner? The last entry in the dropdown list might help fixing that.... (over time, that is....)
