Mind you, Fry just dropped the portals in their latest release.
They say the new RC is so fast that it renders interiors without portals now faster than with portals before.
They also dropped aeronoise, which will piss off a few people.

I looked up what aeronoise is, and I thought it looked very useful. I wonder why they removed it.

Haven't tried it, but judging from what the fryers have been posting in the past couple of days, it looks pretty damn fast!
(They said aeronoise was eating memory and would be replaced by a render region feature in the next release).

Pretty convincing. You seem to have different light sources in both scenes, though. Are they really comparable?

I haven't played with it enough. Waiting for Blendigo.
I did notice some fireflies in some of the displacement tests I did so maybe this needs a bit more work.
I'll run some of my problematic scenes through it when Blendigo is updated and post a bug report if I still get fireflies.

judging by your test, vux, Indigo returned less noise.
Sun Position Different (not so much)
I think it does matter a lot. If the sun hits the floor over a smaller area then the lighting conditions are really different, and distance between directly lit surfaces (floor here) and say, walls is critical as well.

If possible redo a (maybe shorter) test within the very same conditions.
obsolete asset

Maybe with meshlights, that way it would be strictly comparable.
