Type 'df' in a shell (command line)
Tells you the amount of disk free :)

ok, its official, the drive is full

typed df nd got

filesystem size used avail use%
/dev/sda5 5.1G 4.9G 0 100%

so i spose id better delete some stuff and/or resize my partitions, except i dont know how to delete stuff when i cant even log on and i dont know how to expand the mandriva partition from windows when the 'expand' option is blanked out :?

well if you managed to get into a condole the following commands may help:

ls
show directory contents
ls -la
show directory contents, with details and hidden files

cd folder
chage directory to folder

cd ..
change folder up one level

cd ../../
change folder up 2 levels
(and so on)

cp file folder
copy a file to folder

mv file folder
move a file to folder

mv file1 file2
rename file1 to file2

rm file
delete file

first i would recommend that you
cd /tmp
into the temp folder,
ls
the files there to see if any junk is filling the disk
and
rm
any junk files.

I wouldn't like to say as I'm not at all familiar with Mandriva.
How much free space do you now have ?
Can you not move other large documents onto USB sticks or external HDs ?
