Do you only use your own materials?

Post by thednx » Tue Jan 03, 2017 11:46 pm

Hi,

I have a question that has been bugging me for a while, just asking for your
Personal opinion:

I model as a hobby, and is ones work only "original" if every last material, every last object is created by yourself?

On the one side, every stroke of a painting and its effects is done by the brush and skills of the artist.
On the other side: why invent the wheel over and over again? Why not use a cool material (and reference it of course)?

When is a scene not "your" scene anymore? When 50% of the materials aren't yours? 90%?
Or is the idea, the composition "mine", the "original"?

Thanks for your input

Dennis

I think it's more down to the image concept and composition personally. As you say, no need to reinvent the wheel.

Yes, depends on what you choose to create, present... who you are ;)

& a bit more about the wheel...

concept (wiki)

Even masters (those who could afford it) had and still have their students doing the banal, repetitive & tedious work. Exemplary model of modern times studio is Andy's The Factory

In short (remnants of teachings)
Liberation of art, science, philosophy... started as the Renaissance (revival, rebirth) and gain momentum with the Medici family. Before, the pop-art & propaganda was in absolute domain of kings & priests, while even earlier in time (~archaic Greece) such concepts only started to develop consciously & knowingly.

"Good artists copy, Great artists steal."
- Pablo Picasso

See?
Just a composite.

We reflect upon all that is
at least i believe so
