Indigo 2.4 - Don't Make Me Think
Indigo 2.4 - Don't Make Me Think
Hi guys,
Yves and I have branched Indigo 2.4 and started work. Our goal is to reduce the amount of thinking you have to do to use Indigo, and to make it feel more like a native application on Windows or OS X. As such - I'd like for you to spam this thread with user interface annoyances and confusing aspects of the Indigo UI. We're also working on an exporter overhaul.
This is an opportunity for perfectionists to knock themselves out with UI critiques - so post all those little annoyances.
I'll start with the list I'm working from:
* Indigo render settings shouldnt be visible when scene not open
* Material editor looks awful on os x
* Indigo doesn't have normal os x keyboard shortcuts
* Can't select a portion of the image and ctrl-c to copy the image to the clipboard
* Saved images don't have a thumbnail icon
* SketchUp user interface has inconsistent pixel spacing
* Light layers user interface in Indigo GUI looks awful
What'll make your life with the Indigo UI better?

Re: Indigo 2.4 - Don't Make Me Think
A Resume button on the toolbar of the Indigo GUI.
I use the 'Resume render from IGI' option alot. No need to hide this feature in the menu's
Also can we have the initial rendered image fit to screen rather than at 100%. I mean the first passes are gonna be such crap at that res I always fit the image to the screen initially anyway.

Good point. The toolbar will change when we open/close scenes, no point showing greyed out buttons.

Re: Indigo 2.4 - Don't Make Me Think
Please, please, please can we finally have the option to set the default save location the igi's, etc.
I am so fed up with them filling up my c: drive - which doesn't have much spare space.
And for those that say you can set it via the exporter - this doesn't work when you use resume - and I use that a lot.
for your info I'm using Win7 x64, Blendingo in case that makes a difference
Edit: how about as a compromise that if a user sets a default save destination then that is used otherwise Indigo defaults to using system path variables, etc as it does now?.

Hmm - would it make sense to be able to open .igi files? Instead of a seperate file->resume from igi option?

Re: Indigo 2.4 - Don't Make Me Think
Well the button could be just labelled Resume From.. and do the same as the menu option. Just be easier to click the button. I do use the resume option a lotbenn wrote:Hmm - would it make sense to be able to open .igi files? Instead of a seperate file->resume from igi option?

Simply because all the info like save path, etc. get transfared via command line ONLYDoug Armand wrote:Please, please, please can we finally have the option to set the default save location the igi's, etc. [...] And for those that say you can set it via the exporter - this doesn't work when you use resume - and I use that a lot.

Here are some of my:
Proper Zoom Levels
IGI tonemap mode
Interactive SuperSampling downsize filter controle
Save as EXR
All this stuff technically possible but missing!
I also would like to see the network rendering tab more informative & usefull:
- display of "Frame transfer time"
- button: "force frame upload"
Other Stuff:
- If you scroll the Render Log my dragging the scrollbar and it gets updated the scrollbar hits down the log... simply disable autoscrolling during drag!
- the loading bar seems to be quite basic with only a few "stages"
- whitepoint can only be set by some presets from Exporter, a custom value for x&y supported by exporters would be nice too.
- Interactive region rendering
- Network client should start the upload interval after starting render threads, not after some time during scene computing...
- the renderlog could be simplified:

But why can't Indigo then use a default save directory set via the Indigo GUI?. Thats all I'm asking for.Zom-B wrote:Simply because all the info like save path, etc. get transfared via command line ONLYDoug Armand wrote:Please, please, please can we finally have the option to set the default save location the igi's, etc. [...] And for those that say you can set it via the exporter - this doesn't work when you use resume - and I use that a lot.

Re: Indigo 2.4 - Don't Make Me Think
You guys forgot the obvious "Make Awesome." button next to the render settings. Duh.

Re: Indigo 2.4 - Don't Make Me Think
Dougal - blendigo already had most of the overhaul (stopping the crazy random-jumble gui layout), but we may do a naming standardisation.

I don't think anyone would mind which exporter we use as a model for standardization, just as long as it is done.
