[REQ] OBJ support

Allowing Indigo to use .obj meshes directly as it does with .3ds files would be much more than an upgrade for Maya/modo/ScketchUp/so on/... users.

Conversion between obj and 3ds is not an option, it has never, ever been in fact :roll:

Please...

Yes I agree with you.

if indigo can read obj as 3ds files that can speed up the export from maya with the maya script export (great stuff this exporter). also the exporter can only make the structures of the scene and link the obj file as a 3ds file... that will be say that the exporter for maya will be faster, more flexible and also can manage bigger scene without wait 30 min :shock: for export a scene (ps : I have a dual xeon HT 2.8 Ghz.... :roll: )

Do you think you can do this OnoSendai ?

Ps : shaders are great idea for layered material, is it possible to tell me how you do your 2 tests to mix 2 materials and is it possible with indigo v 0.6 ?

Best regards.

yeah... if we can get a working obj import then I can make the exporter to actually work at normal speed :? ... rather than how slow it really is :(

There are an obj exporter that works good in maya... if indigo can read obj, your exporter just need to export per object an obj file... that will be a great speedup... your exporter is slow but it exist so your exporter is an hope for maya user :wink:

Best regards

OBJ! OBJ! OBJ! :D
Nick said it should work... indigo accepts them, but there is no object there when it renders... :?

Last but not least:
3DS File Format Toolkit

This archive contains the 3DS file format SDK. Note that the 3DS file format is no longer supported by Autodesk.

Well, using IndigoExplorer you can see that works
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?>
<IndigoScene>
<Environment mode="1" color="255,255,255" turbidity="2" sky_gain="0.005" sundir="-57,-20,80" sundirHP="53,251" env_enabled="0" env_file_path="" env_width="640" env_gain="0.9" />
<Films selected="0">
<Film type="Camera" aspect_ratio="1.33" sensor_width="0.036" aperture_radius="0.001" white_balance="3" fps="25" xRes="800" yRes="400" regionType="0" region="0,0,0,0" split="0,0">
<Camera position="40.85987,16.2275,45.49464" rotation="-0.01335365,0.3799465,0.005485669,0.9248958" focus_distance="60.2105293273926" lens_sensor_dist="0.03" />
</Film>
</Films>
<Object path="C:/work/3d/simplet_man.obj" assemblyMode="2" layerHidden="">
<Material layer="Default" name="glass" />
</Object>

<Target outputImagePath="" />
<Render old_render_support="0" max_time="500" max_mutation_per_pixel="500" num_threads="1" bidirectional="1" image_save_period="20" save_tonemapped_exr="0" save_untonemapped_exr="0" metropolis="1" large_mutation_prob="0.4" max_change="0.025" max_num_consec_rejections="100" russian_roulette_live_prob="0.7" max_depth="1000" strata_width="5" logging="1" cache_trees="0" reinhard_pre_scale="1" reinhard_post_scale="1" />
</IndigoScene>
Indigo 0.6 rendered my object correctly ! Funky I would say... reverse slashes or something ?

Nevermind the previous post, this is not an Indigo description scene exposed here. I'm now pretty sure the issue with obj files is a material one :?
