ok so here are my quick and dirty testrenders.
I don't really believe it is a bug, but the pictures look clearly different!
First one is indigo_v1.1.18, second one is indigo_v1.1.13. Settings are exactly the same, I am using hybrid and bdri all the time cause I'm lazy. Same tonemapping, same everything.
materials are external, to be sure that's not the exporter that changed, but I'm not sure that proofs anything. I know suv isn't using blendigo, but what about the others? Is anyone using blender and NOT having these problems??? And is there anyone not using blender and HAVING these problems?

So the mats are Rough Glass (from MatDB) for the tumbler and tabulated water for the water. It has a tiny little bit of SSS, to nail my suspicion that my SSS mats are turning "purplelish" in newer versions of indigo. and the water DOES look purple in the second render.
Scale is about real world, meaning the tumbler is about 9cm high. Both objects are floating well above the ground.

So I think something has changed within indigo but what is it??? :o

EDIT: changed the first picture, light setup was not 100% the same, just 99,99%
Had a beer.

SSS was changed in 1.1.15:

Code: Select all

* Changed SSS a bit
Since this time SSS get calculated R, G and B for it self, and not simultaneously (I realy forgot the proper explenation  )
This should speed up calculation (on some scenarios!) but also has the side effect of having a colour noise during render progress...

SSS is something that could need some more love by Ono I think ;-)

Well it is not just noise...
I'll let the first render cook for a night on three 2-core machines, so it'll be more or less noise-free, and I bet it is gonna stay dark and purple. Update tomorrow.

So this means we have to change all of our nice sss-mats? :(

EDIT: And why suvakas can't reproduce this?
And also: Did you notice the change of the background? It is not sss, just simple phong.

What I can tell is about the purple tint: it's Hybrid mode, I recognized it at a glance. Hybrid can be helpfull in some scenarios where bidir is having a hard time, but it is recommended not to use it. Well, Ono told once: "don't use hybrid", simply put.

To be honest I hope that hybrid could be reworked in the future because it can be so helpfull, but I think it was discontinued for a few versions now, so it must not match with the latest bidir evolutions; that's what I'm supposing at least.

Now I have a theory on why glossy might be darker, but it's really just an own theory with no real backup :)

Perhaps it is normal that glossy materials are darker than specular materials because all rays do not reach the camera because of the glossy term, do'h. So maybe trying to match the tones of both materials was wrong in first instance.

OK so here it is almost noise-free.

Thanks CTzn, if this is true I should consider to not be lazy and to turn off hybrid.

Gonna cook another image now, very excited about the "hybrid-purple-theory"!

We never did, we tried to match tones of both GLOSSY materials, so your theory should apply to both...

Mmm... **cough** should read:

enough cooking: hybrid is off, and it is clearly brighter. But still too dark/too purple.
Ono, what happened to my nice water?!!

Just in case Polinalkrimizei, did you make sure that the hybrid tag was effectively removed, or set to false in the renderer settings within the igs (I don't use blender/blendigo) ? That's strange indeed.

if I tell blendigo to turn off hybrid, it is changed to "false" in the igs, I checked. Who can reproduce this? Perhaps it is just me making a stupid mistake.

Yeah what about it???
I know it is fixed in the commercial versions, but since a lot of great artists still depend on v1.1.18, it would be a really nice gesture to fix the issue
