[REQ] Gradient background option

along with the solid color and physical sky system, would it be easy to implement a gradient background option? preferably one where you could define an arbitrary number of points (for a rainbow sky, for example)?
i find it a lot easier to tune lights and such to a background color with Gain and itd be easier to get exactly the kind of sky i want with a gradient (for those purple sunsets or what).

thoughts?

yes or some alien landscapes........like the bryce env system....
i like the idea.....

Yes, a "Turbulence Transition Function" from the gradient color points would be nice ;-)

hm what do you mean by that? do you have any examples of this?
sounds like something like a texture that would modulate how it fades from one color to the next....

For a gradient/alien landscape/etc. BG you could just use alpha rendering.... add in the background afterwards.

+1 what alex said.

except that you dont get reflections/light from the background that way.

also, im not sure if alpha rendering works if youre looking at the sky through glass. i dont think it can, especially if the glass is warping everything so much (say if it was an amorphous sculpture of some kind).

That's a good point. Alpha mapping won't help at all with reflective/refractive materials.
