Wouldn´t it be nice if we could use IES datas for lights?

Yes, the manufacturers of lightsources.

For example you'll find some here:

This is a definite possibility.
I don't really know anything about IES, so it depends on the complexity of the format.
Also this is reasonably specialised, only architects will use this presumably.

I know this thread is a bit old.... but I just discovered it

It would be really nice to have support for ies files (I have a bunch of them- like a few thousand)

Remember that cheezy program by Autodesk? "Lightscape"? That program used ies files, and it was very helpfull to achieve precise lighing simulations in certain cases.

Nick, this would for sure push indigo way out there, yes, helpful for architects, but also Interior designers, Lighting designers, even companies who need to test their lights under certain circumstances and/or achieve effects that would happen in real life with certain light fixtures.

Hope to see this added somewhre in the future (or another lifetime)....

This is not a recent post but it's a wish I wanted make a thread for... and I searched for "ies" before and found this post. So, I'm with you : ies, yes !

Now that this thread has been unburried from the grave....

I was thinking maybe Nick could implement it like the NK Data files, by just placing the ies files into a "IES" folder where we can add our own ies files and just assign them to certain light in the XML...

Don't know how complex the IES format is, but that is an excellent idea!

please don't forget EULUMDAT then... it's told to be more robust than IES and less messy, for instance EULUMDAT can define luminaires with different bulbs, wich IES can not.
