if fake sss would be faster that would be wonderfull!(we could use this for example for leaves or something)
of course i won't miss real sss

Sometimes there are caustics wich don't makes the image better and even are not "seeable" (oh, i bet thats really bad english ) and produces nevertheless white dots/fireflies. In these cases that option would be very useful (you won't have to wait sooo long till the caustics clear up), imho.manitwo: I dont know about turning off caustics, Indigo is all about acurate (unbiased) light simulation. That would introduce bias and defeat Indigo's purpose, IMHO.
SSS would be fantastic, though shaders too, and those other things. Hehehe!

Wouldn't this be rough glass? That would be a great feature too!Perhaps i could hack up some kind of fake SSS, which only scatters at the entry to and exit from transparent materials. Would this be useful, or do you think only true SSS will do?
Ian
I would love to see some SSS stuff in Indigo too!!!
If this "hack" you talk about Nic, is a easy job for you, go for it dude!
Perhaps this hack will stay a interesting feature even if SSS is out for Indigo someday!
But I think before putting more stuff into Indigo, bug-hunting is more important (kill em all ),
to get a clean and clear Indigo version first... this will make things for "Indigo Newcommers" much easier!
But the most important thing is, that you do the stuff you like to Nic
Doesn't matter what you code, I'm shure we'll be allways happy about it

I dream of a image-mapping for most material parameters:
ex1:
or with map
ex2:
or with map
ex1:
Code: Select all
<specular>0.100 0.100 0.100</specular>
Code: Select all
<specular><map uv-set="uv" gain=1.0 exponent=1.5>spec_map.jpg</map></specular>
Code: Select all
<exponent>100</exponent>
Code: Select all
<exponent><map uv-set="uv" gain=150 offset=50>exp_map.jpg</map></exponent>
Hey guys, I didn't sad that SSS isn't used often, I know its important part of a Render, and I love it too!!!
Its only that images with alpha chanel could be used in a bigger range of scenarios,
you also have to remember that without shaders the use of SSS is limited even more ...
But at the end, both SSS & Alphamapping are in developement,
so lets see what kind of cookies nick will give us in the future
