[REQ] Seperate Indigo Preview Renderer

Post by Anthony » Mon Jun 18, 2007 8:17 pm

It would be great to have a seperate preview renderer, that sacrifices whatever needs to be for speed, but still giving a result similar to how the material will look in a final render.

Yeah.. please Ono, can you turn Indigo into Maxwell clone a bit faster. I can't wait any longer  (joke..sry..I couldn't resist)

For preview you can render at low resolution or turn down the AA samples. I would rather see more useful features implemented than a separate low quality renderer.

yes, suvakas answer also surprises me

I suppose many of us would like to have a 'real time preview'. I use maxwell and c4d-AR, and both have a sort of material editor, so we are talking about 'useful features', not about Indigo as a 'maxwell-clone'.
i think indigo has reached a very very high quality, in terms of output image and stability. But the scene-setup is still slow, compared to maxwell and AR: Ono has done (and is still doing) a GREAT job, and i am sure he is going to do something in this sense.

Bye!

Sry about that 8)
Yeah, a preview renderer would be great.

[edit]
There was a thread some time ago about multi-light being "must have feature". Me being sarcastic is realated to the fact, that so many requests are actually the exact same features, that Maxwell has. Wouldn't it be cool, if Indigo would be better than Maxwell and not the copy of Maxwell? Nah.. i'm too lazy to explain my thoughts on this. Sure.. a preview renderer would be a great thing. I have nothing against it 8)

The answer is YES, i think :D
But some things are much easier in maxwell than in indigo. But i think it's only a question of time until indigo is better than maxwell ;)

Yes, yes, yes.. I get that 8)
It just makes me smile everytime someone makes a request like directly from Maxwell's manual or something. Don't know why, but it seems funny. Indigo = free Maxwell for the masses? 8)

Perhaps such a Preview low quality renderer would be usefull,
but there are lots of other features that I find much more interesting!

The need for a preview is based on Indigos low rendering speed,
but why not use the work time to implement such a Preview Mode
instead to speed up the Renderer by using Exit Portals, some SSE X
enchantments, GPU support general code clean ups etc.

Finally the best solution is to buy a new Rig for you guys,
who cry about the Rendering Speed

BTW: I support suvakas first posting!!!

Yeah, using low settings/resolution is for babies. Separate preview renderer is for real men

but for the preview render, there would have to be some quality-for-speed sacrifices. so unless you want a wireframe preview ( which is kinda pointless) then I'd say go with lower res. Or just render it at a size that will fill you monitor, then take a cuple steps back and squint. :D

You can set <max_depth> to 4 or 6, but in this case indirect lighting may be dimmer.
