[REQ] Exit Portals

Post by okazaky » Mon Jun 11, 2007 10:42 pm

I think that exit portals would be a very nice feature for upcoming indigo versions. They help to get a much nicer lighting for interior scenes and moreover they decrease the rendertimes ;)

Here is some information about the usage of exit portals in fryrender:

Best regards (and please keep up the great work )

I agree with that :D

Since indigo has no 3D scene editor, the setup would be done inside the modeler and the portal designated with the portal tag by the exporter.

Lets say if an object has a certain material no-one usually uses like completely black with no reflection, the exporter interprets it as a portal and tags it accordingly in the scene file for indigo to use.

Just some thoughts :)

It wasn't really discussed there at all was it? I didn't see any posts about exit portals. In the 0.8 stable thread it was looked at a bit, but who cares. There are no specific threads about it (I think) Yay for exit portals

Yup, I think I know how to implement exit portals, so I will have a crack at them soon probably.

Yay! Indigo will have like a 5x speed increase  If we haven't beaten Maxwell speed-wise yet (have we?) we surely will now if you can implement it (and i have no doubt you can  ).

I cant wait ^.^
