It would be great if it would be possible to swith visibility of Mesh Light for the rendering on & off,
So there would be more flexibility to light up a Scene with more Light "from nowhere".

Yes, would be really nice
Moreover it would be cool to get more options for light emitters which could help to adjust brightness and fallof.

Hi,
Just a noob question - has this (invisible mesh light) or an equivalent been implemented yet? I searched the forums and perused the Manual but couldn't find an answer. I need a sperical or point light that illuminates yet is invisible in the render. Using Blender 2.44 and Indigo 0.8. Thanks

Nope, it's not implemented.
Can't do it at the moment.

Thanks for the quick reply - OK then, I'll have to get creative!

simply make a hipoly sphere (I *think*, a primitive wont work... dunno....) and decrease it's size close to zero -> sphereal close-too-point light source^^

Kram,
You must be reading my mind - this is exactly what I was going to try (getting creative) when I got home tonight! Although a larger sphere would probably give me the soft shadows I need but I'll experiment with it. Thanks again.

will null material do the same?

CoolColJ,
Hmmm......interesting thought - I'll have to give this a try as well.
Thanks.

wont work, I bet, as every light gets a dummy mat, 0 0 0 black diffuse.....

Uh - null material is just that - null.
it won't appear in the render, and it won't affect the scene in any way.

yes, but lights in any case simply get a black diffuse material, no matter, what you give them. Even with a null.
the difference is, that the light doesn't simply goes through the lamp (which actually wouldn't be quite realistic), but the ray gets killed, as soon, as it hits the lamp (which also isn't realistic, on one hand, but you wouldn't see the caustics from a light source, anyway, on the other hand, and by immediately killing the ray, you get faster rendering
