Indigo crash on MacPro

Post by SreckoM » Tue Jan 19, 2016 2:01 am

I am having constant crash with Indigo app on MacPro. This is customised MacPro with GTX770 and Nvidia web drivers. Might that be cause of crash? Every other app, much more complex than Indigo are working perfectly.

This is the error I get:
Indigo Renderer quit unexpectedly while using the QtOpenGL plug-in.

My workaround is to turn off OpenGL window, which I am not using anyway. So does anyone else have same problems?

You named the problem: "QtOpenGL plug-in" and you named the solution for it: "turning off the OpenGL preview" 8)

There is the good chance that the OpenGL preview causes some heavy RAM usage on your GPU, if you start Indigo from a 3D app, this adds to the RAM usage you already have for that scene loaded in this 3D app...

I do not think it is RAM. I have 4 GB on this card, plus this happens even if I hit New Material and start tweaking something.

But yeah OpenGL is turned off so I can live without it. Just wanted to report this.

Thanks for reporting; the Indigo GL view doesn't actually limit the amount of memory it uses, which can conflict with GPU rendering memory usage I guess.

With Indigo 4's fast GPU rendering we'll probably leave it behind, however.

Hi

I too had the same problem when I access the disk (save image, load environment map).
I installed El Capitan and the problem not been replicated even with the window open OpenGL.

^ Yes, I used to have that problem as well, but not anymore. I think it might be due to upgrading to El Capitan as well. Maybe there was a graphics driver bug in the earlier Mac OS versions?

I have El Capitan too, must be issue with Nvidia web drivers that I am using instead of Apple drivers.

Apple's implementation of Open GL is notably not the best. I guess there's a reason they have implemented Metal, their new Graphics and if I understand it correctly also GPGPU API.

Yeah probably that, or maybe some bug with Qt which is used to build UI, I think ... I am having QT crashes even OpenGL window closed.

Hi SreckoM,
Can you try using the normal Mac graphics drivers and see if that makes a difference?

Unfortunately that brings more problems. Can not open Indigo than, because of some CUDA error, probably as drivers are messed after change.. Might be because of my system as it is highly customised, more hackintosh than MacPro....

(UPDATE) I think it has something to do with Crazy Bump app....(on my end) when i load a texture not made in crazy bump app...it works fine. Strange.
