Object "nnnn" has no uv coordinates / no material assigned

Post by thednx » Tue Apr 30, 2013 11:41 pm

Hi,

I find something slightly bothersome:

Imagine a scene in blender with 30 objects.
One of these objects has a material assigned but is not unwrapped /
This object has a material assigned that is no longer available.

The error message after exporting and before rendering begins is "object (enter number here) has no uv" or "object (enter number here) has no assigned material"

Finding the pesky object is a -pain-. One has to click through all the objects to find the broken link / error.

Suggestion: is there a way to pass on the object name in the error?

I have fixed the "has no uv coordinates" error by always exporting a dummy UV if an object does not have any uvs.

If anyone thinks that's a bad idea, please let me know.

Regarding the other "no material assigned" error: I haven't encountered it yet, but I'd like to improve the error message/stop it from happening. Can you give me some steps to reproduce it?

I'll try to reconstruct that scenario ;-)
