Blend with additive mode

Post by noldo » Thu Nov 01, 2012 11:55 pm

Is there a way to combine (blend) two materials in additive mode?

Not as in an editing image software. I think that this, as you may think of it would break a condition for a realistic behaviour of the resulting material.

Now, what is it that you want to achieve ? There is perhaps a different way for that.

In the C4D Exporter you can blend ISL Shaders in using:
- multiply
- add
- subtract

maybe more could be possible?!
But the restriction here is as I said that atm only blending of ISL Shaders is possible, not a texture with another one for example...

It's possible to add to textures via ISL, as texture can be accessed by ISL. The result will be clamped to 1 in case of albedo (or diffuse) textures

No, no, I thought about the blend material in additive mode, a la Maxwell Render.
For example, a base material oren nayar, and a phong with black color, only for subtle specularity.

atm Indigo has a Blend material that is linear and can be controlled by texture.
But A, B and C is available for tweaking too...

In this case you want the phong albedo to be the same than the one used by the Oren-Nayar material, and control the specularity strength with a constant blend value between both.

That's clearly an interesting feature for that use, and it's true that regular blend make only dull materials. Only workaround is to have a very reflecting phong (high IOR) and blend it slightly to another material. But that's not perfect.

There's a coating material for this purpose that will be released soon.

Indeed!
Cool varnished materials, yay!
