Light Layer Blending Test
hey hey
made this as a quick test scene for the AMAZING new light layer blending feature in Indigo. rendered for about 21h on my brand new 64-bit quadcore (fuck yeah) at 2400x1600. downsampled to 600x400 because of graininess and video.
couple things from using light layers:
- slooooow to update. it was about a minute between unchecking the "enable" button and seeing the effect (then waiting until it saved an image). even when the rendering was paused.
- huuuuge files. but i guess thats expected, at least until Ono puts in a more efficient Indigo image format
- unrelated to light layers: we need faster SSS.... argh its so pretty but is impossible to get clean, especially when you cant substitute diffuse transmitter/phong. (gripe gripe gripe)
oh yeah. xml was hand edited to get light layers working. lots of copy/paste.

íf anyone is willing to throw it on youtube or vimeo, feel free, as i have no account/im too lazy to do so. lemme know if there are problems!
sorry for the book and thanks for watching.

thanks guys!
borgleader: thanks! rendered at 2400x1600. nowhere near clean enough, so i might play around with the materials a bit (switch up the SSS for diffuse transmitter + phong, maybe a BIT less glass, etc.). i just wanted to throw something together to give my new machine a trial by fire, so to speak!
pixie: thanks man, very simple modeling, just a booth and some subsurfed seats & table. i was gonna make it a wee bit more detailed (for example, the outside of the booth) but i dont have too much time to devote to this right now!
light layers were set up by assigning simple diffuse materials to the emitter groups and then changing them in the exported XML, with the test scene as a reference.
Kram: 4 layers. outside white softboxes (first shot), table/seating lights, orange recessed lights, and red overheads just outside the booth. there was even a 5th layer, with blue spots coming down over the table but it was waaaay too grainy and didnt offer much.

tom that was really reather amazing, reminded me alot of those maxwell tests, although the maxwell one has some dodgy fridge noise issues yours looked pretty clean, may i ask how you did it though? was it in app animation or controlled by splicing renders together?
either way amazing job, really does indigo justice

thanks again guys!
video was put together in Blender. basically it was a matter of turning on various light layers in different combinations and waiting for Indigo to save the PNG, then making a copy of the PNG and switching up the light layers, etc etc. the video is a just a fade between the images. there are 10 images in total, all from one rendering (so, starting from the beginning, exterior softboxes, exterior softboxes + table lights, only table lights, etc etc etc.)
Blender's sequence editor is the only video editor i need and its pro enough for me!
i can upload the scene when i get home tonight.
