at pal resolution (352x288) it might speed the render time a little, then he wouldn't need a large SPP either, only now and then (if using MPEG 2). Either way it would be no small feat what would be quite an achievement.
But one thing that might speed it up even more was if Indigo could keep the scene in the memory and update the camera, lights, positions, etc... once the established SPP was reached...

I don't think Indigo would be an option for that kind of stuff even if render times were faster.
Right now, for example, I'm having fun with a big space dogfight scene - Yes, I know, I'm recycling all the old tired cliches. BI is great for this kind of stuff, not because it's fast (it isn't really), but because of the tons of SFX you can do with particles, halos, vector blur, compositing nodes and so on.
Now a lot of this stuff can be done with an Indigo render in post-production with Blender or PShop. But what works for individual stills doesn't for animations.
I just see BI and Indigo as two different tools for different kinds of jobs.

Hmmm...
Maybe things like that will be possible in the coming releases...
The rewritten shaders will allow much more options and maybe, particles will come in some releases... There already was a thread with Indigo particles rendering but Ono seems to have stopped working on that (for now at least...)

Just a quick heads-up to let you know IT'S ART, the CG art site, has put up a tutorial about the making of this scene and animation.
