Brilliant! What a clever customer! :D

We blender users can use the edgesplit modifier ;)

Great work, as usual, Radiance.

Please...do share your knowledge of the edge split modifier! I too am tired of separating my meshes.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Radiance, nice one as always.

http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Manua ... t_Modifier  Make sure you turn on 'draw sharp' in the mesh tools panel so you can see what edges are marked as sharp.

I thought edgesplit only changed the shading. :?

Doesn't external meshes fix that issue with hard edges ?

Interesting machinery 8)

About smoothing groups.. can't it be coded into Blender exporter so that it does it automatically? In Maxigo i count all the smoothing groups into an array and then split the mesh faces according to what smoothing group they belong. I've never done it manually in max. Isn't this possible with Python (or whatever the script language is in Blender)?

Nice model and setup, great plastic material and wood and a very very crappy upper surface. What is that supposed to be? :?

Also I don't really get how the thing is supposed to work and what problem is supposed to solve. Maybe that's why I'm not a plumber... ;-)

No.. it won't matter if the tris are split along an edge, as long as the edge has zero width, and the tri materials all use the same internal medium name.

looks cool :D
if you seperate the things, you do the same as if you use Edge Split, so.... It shouldn't change ANYthing (as Ono said, already ;))

btw, great image.
My only crit would be that some of the image is a bit dark, it makes it slightly hard to see what's going on.

Sweet, that's good to know! :)
