looking great Zom-B !

I'm wondering if the heated metal (is it ?) could be made glowing, in post perhaps or from the diffuse map, isolating the red component.

Yes it is, and there is even a map for that, but the render output simply doesn't convince me.
Since its only a emitter texture there is now "glowing" but only "emittance".
This flattens the depth of the character in my point of view, if somebody wants to convince me of the oposite (via PostPro), here is the rendered light pass:

Not sure if it adds anything... but here's my effort...

Put the glow pass layer on top using the screen blend option, that's what I'd do.

That is essentially what I did do, but I had to tone it way down...

... and what I did, but its quite bad result not helping the image.

I think that is the point I missed
Thanks a lot for that tip!

That's the main issue, the input image should be composited with its blurred 2D version beforehand or it does look flat indeed.

I'm this lazy :) Thanks for sharing bubs !

edit: killer version: use the emission map in a foggy scene. Anyways it's looking great.

@Zom-B:

I have to thank you so very much! There was never a tipp that saved me so much time, as the one with Neat Video!
It´s so super awesome! I still can´t believe how good it works.
Til now i had to render all of my scenes til they looked clean (took looooong times), or do a lot of postwork with photoshop (took even longer times).

One more time:

Thank you so very much for this tipp!

I finally reworked and rendered a animation that I had in my pipeline for quite a long time:
https://vimeo.com/136695843

Since the latest C4D exporter update with proper motion blur and a ton of animation fixes I could render this little guy without issues.
All the credits for the animation go to wipix.fr!

The animation still has some flaws, since atm the is no mesh transformation based Motion blur, that would kick in here nicely.

Also the car eyes are closed all the time and the transition to and from the walk cycle is very abrupt.
Rendertime could have been way lower (~12min on 3 x 4770k @4.2Ghz), but the HDRI light from the back left side has some stronger light that passes the back window of the car, reflects on the inner side of the windshield, and then causes ugly noise on the car seats...

I did some portprocessing for a more filmish look, here are two frames from that animation directly out of Indigo:

Love that animation though!

the rendertime could be setup way shorter, here a quick example rendering for about 2minutes.
Only the noise on the seat forced me to render longer...
