Revigo errors

Post by Ashwini Parashar » Wed Mar 02, 2011 7:56 pm

Dear Experts,

We are using Revit 2011. Following are the problems which we are facing while trying to render:

1. We setup view in Revit, but while we render the same furniture orientation get changed to 90 degree. It also crop the view size.
2. We downloaded few materials from Indigo render website. But as apply them into our model, it start showing error message.
3. We are unable to render after applying materials. It shows error message about material only.

These are the basic errors which we are facing. The list is very long which we will keep sharing with all the experts in the forum.

Please help us in resolving these basic issues.

Thanks
Ashwini

If you'd post the error message(s) (just copy and paste from Indigo) that would make much easier to analyze the error.

I can't say much about the left error window as it comes from Revit and I am not a Revit user.
However, the cause of the problem indicated in the left window stems from your use of a downloaded material with the .pigm file extension.

PIGM stands for Packed Indigo Material. You may unpack/unzip this file as it is essentially a zip file. Depending how that material is structured this may create a folder that can contain several files, among them an .igm file. IGM is an abbreviation for Indigo material. That is the file you want to reference in Revit.

I operate an iMac running OSX and use Blender as my 3D software. I can directly access .pigm files trough my exporter without having to unpack them first. On my WinXP system at work I have to unpack these first in order to get them to work.

Let us know if this helped.

Hello Headroom,

Thanks for reply.
We are using windows7 64 bit. I tried to unzip the PIGM but couldn't succeed. Then I opened the PIGM file in Material editor and saved it as IGM. But still I am facing the same problem.

Please suggest some other alternative.

Thanks

We received following input from Autodesk support team:

The indigo renderer is a 3rd party plug-in and Autodesk does not provide support for it.

I request Administrator of Indigo render to comment on it.

Thanks
Ashwini

Hey Ashwini,

it seems that you are trying to use a packed indigo material (pigm) as a texture, which is the reason for the exception you are getting: It currently does not check for unsupported file formats and also does not catch this exception (we will fix that in the next version).

To use a pigm or igm material file, you have to set the material type to "External material" (I think that's what its called) and then select the pigm/igm file.

I hope this helps.

Regards
Yves

Dear Yves,

Thanks for your reply.
Can you please let me know the procedure of defining the material as external.

How can we add trees, people, furniture etc into the scene prior to rendering, to make it lively and get some real reflections etc.

Please give your suggestions.

Thanks
Ashwini

This is one more problem which we are facing while trying to render from revit, with its default materials. Some of the components come out of the wall face ( as highlighted in image)...

Please give your suggestions...

Please note the difference between two images. Furniture is changing location in before and after rendering views. This is related to previous error, where windows etc were coming out of the wall plane.

Please review and give your suggestions.

Dear Yves,

There are lots of issues wile using Indigo Render for Revit (please check trailing posts). We really want to use the software, since it provide great flexibility for architectural visualizations combined with revit modeling. But after trying it on various models and projects of revit, we are unable to get the desired results.

Proper documentation & help is also not available for Revigo. We understand from Forum that very few people are using Indigo for Revit, may be because of lots of compatibility issues, which we also faced.

We request you to suggest us solutions to get over with these problems, so that we can go ahead with Revigo with any hesitation.

Lots of Revit users, like us, are looking at you...)

Waiting to hear some solutions from you..

Thanks
Ash

The Revit Exporter is the youngest of all Exporters in the "Indigo Family". Regarding this there are is still room for enhancement! Still just a few users care to share their experiences with the Exporter, and even more important to point out Bugs and usability issues. Only by requests and ideas of People who use Revit in a day by day basis further development will result in a better product!

Your posts are very welcome, and I'm sure Glare will take care about these issues asap, but please give them a few hours to react on your messages ;)
